Description
Vacheron Constantin produced this limited edition of 100 watches in 2007 to celebrate the centenary of the Chronometre Royal. This watch falls under the Vacheron Constantin Historiques model line. The watch is a tribute to the legendary Vacheron Constantin Chronometre Royal pocket watch, which was the legendary’s brand timekeeping Piece de Resistance... a chronometer in which they put the full weight and force of their ateliers’ combined knowledge of watchmaking to produce the best watch of the era (1907). So, when the 100th Anniversary of the watch arrived, Vacheron launched the Historiques Chronometre Royal 1907 model… and then, quietly this particular watch that we are offering: a limited edition of 100 watches offered to their most important collectors.

I am blown away by the quality of this watch. Let’s start with the dial. First off, the limited edition of 100 watches has a burgundy colored ‘12’. The dial is a pane of white gold, to start, which Vacheron says is less prone to deformation than the more commonly used yellow gold pane dials. Vacheron employed an old method of enameling the dial called “champlevé” which prevents any burning when the dial is cooked – get this – up to seven times in an oven heated to 800 degrees Celsius. The enameller is a true artisan, and it’s up to his discretion how long each cycle in the oven takes. While most enamel dials have lacquered numbers and printing, this dial has enamel numbers, which in their own turn require time in the oven to set. And, the burgundy color takes a different cycle in the oven from the black numbers. According to Vacheron, they can only make one or two dials per day. The hands are rose gold are sword style while the sweep seconds hand is blackened.

The solid 18k rose gold case is a subtle, beautiful creation. The bezel and tops of the lugs are polished, while the mid part of the case is brush finished. The case back is polished and engraved. The front sapphire crystal is slightly domed while the display back sapphire crystal is flat. The crown is polished and signed with the Maltese Cross. Water resistant to 30 meters.

The movement is really extraordinary, as one could expect in such an important tribute to the company’s best chronometer from the turn of the twentieth century. Featuring a 22k skeletonized and engraved winding rotor that glides on ceramic ball bearings to eliminate friction and the need for lubrication, the Caliber 2460SCC beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, is adjusted to 5 positions, has 27 jewels and a 43 hour power reserve. The quality of the movement, its assembly and finish are so superior that the Caliber has been awarded with the elite Geneva Seal and also with a C.O.S.C. Chronometer Certification.

Strap is a dark brown, hand-sewn Vacheron Constantin crocodile with 18k rose gold Vacheron deployant clasp.

This watch is like new and will be delivered with complete box and papers set, including the signed Certificate that accompanies it.

This is an important and collectable wristwatch.
