Description
Yves Piaget personally presented this watch to one of his friends as a gift on the occasion of his friend’s 60th birthday in 1988. With a solid 18k gold heavy Galbe case (rectangular with rounded corners), gold dial with roman numerals, gold hands and, of course, the important Beta 21 Caliber beating inside, this is an important and extremely rare timepiece.

The gold case measures 41mm long by 33.5mm wide by 9.4mm thick. Case construction is a two tiered stepped bezel mounted to a mid-case body and case back secured by 4 gold screws. Crystal is sapphire. Impressively, the movement holder ring inside is solid 18k gold (whereas 99% of watches with a movement ring use a base metal ring to save money, even from high-end manufacturers). You can tell this is an important watch to Piaget from this gold movement ring and, of course, that Yves Piaget chose it as a personal gift for his friend.

The Beta 21 movement was the fruit of a collaborative effort spanning from 1962 through 1969, which was sponsored by over 20 leading Swiss watch brands, and named the Centre Electronique Horloger. The resulting movement was introduced at the 1970 Basel Fair, and was put into watches by various brands. Each brand was apportioned their quantity of movements based on their commensurate financial support for the Centre Electronique Horloger project. The movement itself has 13 jewels, quartz standardization and was named the Caliber XP4 by Piaget.

This is a very rare and important wristwatch.
