Description
IWC has paid homage to Antoine St. Exupery with several of its watches in recent years. Monsieur St. Exupery not only wrote one of the best books of all time (The Little Prince) but he was also a passionate pilot. IWC’s Big Pilot watch is a legend in its own time. It’s simply the nicest pilot’s watch being manufactured today. This St. Exupery edition in 18k red gold features a tobacco brown dial and UTC time display and special aviator’s strap. This watch is in new condition with box and papers. IWC only made 500 watches in rose gold.
The 18k rose gold case measures 44mm diameter by 13.2mm thick. IWC cases have exquisite fit and finish and this limited edition is no exception. The finish alternates between polished and brushed. The case back has an engraving showing St. Exupery’s airplane and says “International Watch Co.” and “EDITION SAINT EXUPERY” along with the watch’s serial number and limited edition number (14X/500). Although this watch has an automatic winding movement, the solid rose gold crown is oversized for ease of operation for a pilot wearing a glove. Crystal is sapphire.
Dial is special tobacco brown with large applied luminous arabic numerals, date window at 3 o’clock and the ‘A’ adjacent to 9 o’clock for “Antoine”. The UTC (Universal Time Control) window above 6 o’clock displays a second timezone and the window is framed in rose gold. The hands are luminous.
Movement is an automatic winding IWC Caliber with 42 hour power reserve, hack seconds, protective soft metal internal cover to provide protection against magnetism and particle intrusion.
Strap is a brown leather IWC aviator’s style strap with 18k rose gold IWC tang buckle.
Watch is complete with box and papers.
