Description
Here is a simple and elegant Patek Philippe Calatrava from 1961, in solid 18k gold, with an incredibly complete set of original documents. The 3420 has an anti-magnetic movement inside. Unlike the more renowned anti-magnetic watches like the Rolex Milgauss or IWC Ingenieur, the Patek Philippe 3420 Calatrava is the discreet and stealthy anti-magnetic vintage watch.
The original 18k gold case features claw style lugs, domed acrylic crystal, and case finish that alternates between polished and brushed surfaces. Case dimensions are 34mm diameter by 8mm thick. There is no bezel to speak of, so you are basically wearing a dial… which is nice considering how great looking this dial is!
Original dial is silvered with applied golden index hour markers and baton hands. Subsidiary seconds dial. There is some spotting (just a few spots) at the edge of the dial near the 3 o’clock hour marker. The dial is 100% original and untouched and is in otherwise mint condition.
Movement is the anti-magnetic manual winding Patek Philippe Caliber 27-AM 400 with 18 jewels, adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and in 5 positions, and double stamped with the Geneva Seal. The movement is winding smoothly, beating strongly, and immaculately clean. The “AM” in the movement model number is for “anti-magnetic”.
I just love how Patek encased their finest anti-magnetic movement in a classical gold watch. These kinds of things are precisely what makes collecting vintage watches so fun.
Strap is a modern, new hand-sewn black Patek Philippe crocodile with modern 18k yellow gold Patek Philippe clasp.
