Description
Serious Patek Philippe collectors understand that enamel dial watches are an important, if not widely known, part of the company’s history. The art of cloisonne leaves no margin for error and only dedicated dial artisans even attempt to make these dials. Because of the artistry involved and how the enamel is laid out and baked, each finished dial is effectively a piece unique.
Cloisonne is done by partitioning enamel using threads of gold only .1mm in diameter, then baking the dial numerous times to set the colors and the texture until it is perfect. The dial on this watch celebrates the Year of the Rat. Dial is yellow and is signed “EMAIL” at the bottom, which is French for “enamel”. The Rat, as depicted here, is from the Chinese zodiac.
This watch is a limited edition, whose total production is believed to be only four pieces.
The platinum case is 38mm in diameter with sapphire crystals in front and in the display back. The case is polished to a mirror finish and has sleek, unobtrusive lines which allow the wearer to concentrate, justifiably, on the dial.
Movement is the automatic winding Patek Philippe Caliber 240 with 22kt micro-rotor, 27 jewels, 275 individual parts, with power reserve of approximately 46 hours. The caliber is engraved with the Geneva Seal, attesting to its technical and aesthetic superiority.
Strap is Patek Philippe hand sewn black crocodile with platinum buckle.
Watch is factory sealed new, and is complete with box and papers.
This is a highly collectable, rare, and important wristwatch.
