Description
Everyone knows that Arnold Schwarzenegger is a huge AP collector, but even most collectors don’t know about this watch which has “SEAL OF THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA XXXVIII” and “THE HONORABLE GOVERNOR ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER” engraved on the case back along with a flag of the State of California on a flagpole emerging from some flowers with the sun shining on top in relief.

This is the rarest modern limited edition Audemars Piguet watch with only 35 watches made. But it gets even better: of the 35 watches produced, only 10 have this Arnold/State of California caseback while the other 25 watches have the "Arnold's All Stars" case back. In fact, Arnold kept all 10 of these watches for himself . This watch was auctioned at the AP Boutique in New York for charity in 2008 from Arnold's personal collection.

The 42.3mm diameter stainless steel case (11mm thick) has an extraordinary level of finishing, alternating between polished and brushed surfaces. The polished steel bezel sets off the blue dial beautifully.

The dial has a lot going on, and provides a second timezone display above 6 o’clock with an adjacent Day/Night indicator, date display next to 2 o’clock and an arching power reserve display from 9 o’clock to 11 o’clock. There are applied and blued roman numerals in the silver track around the outer part of the dial, while the inner area of the dial is blue with guilloche. The main hands are Feuille style while all of the displays have red hands. If you look closely, at the very outermost edge outside of the silver ring is a trace of blue, about 1mm wide, which continues the guilloche pattern that the ring interrupts. Subtleties like this are the most surefire way to tell which brands are, indeed, at the crest of their craft.

Movement is the automatic winding Audemars Piguet manufacturer’s Caliber 2329/2846 with 33 jewels, 38 hour power reserve, beating at 28,800 beats per minute and constructed from 261 individual parts. The winding rotor has a 21k gold segment for increasing mass and accordingly winding efficiency.

Strap is blue hand-sewn AP crocodile with steel AP deployant clasp.

Condition is unworn with full box and booklets set. The inner box has a large medallion which replicates (albeit without the relief) the watch’s case back.

This watch is a whole lot of cool going on, and is a beautiful and highly collectable wristwatch.
