Description
This 100% original and authentic military 5513 Submariner will be delivered with an original letter written by a Major in the Special Forces of the British Royal Engineers along with original pictures of the watch in action. The letter is signed by the Major and includes his contact information. Vivid scenes of various theaters of military action are related in the letter, including his monitoring of Russian tanks on the Eastern border of the Iron Curtain and his wearing the watch at a lunch with a Bosnian construction engineer when the latter revealed his role in constructing a nuclear bunker for Saddam Hussein that was later destroyed by US bombs thanks to the Major’s discovery. This watch was, literally, a witness to important 20th Century history. Very cool.
Case is stainless steel with original bezel and original bezel insert with the characteristic hash marks for each minute and fixed lugs that were military spec. Bezel turns with the correct amount of resistance. Triplock crown. Domed acrylic crystal. Case back is engraved with the issue numbers and other markers. Case dimension are 39.5mm in diameter by 14.2mm thick.
Specifically, the case back is engraved with: W10/6645-99-9237697 and lower down 79X/77 with an arrow pointing at the W10 issuance number. Serial number is 37648XXX and production was in 1972. Original issuance was in 1977. The author of the letter presented the watch to his son upon his entry into the British Royal Marines in 1996.
Original untouched black dial has original luminous with patina, the letter ‘T’ inside the circle, which is the universal symbol for Tritium. The hands are original, as is the luminous, and as you can see the hands on this miliary 5513 are the broad sword hands and the luminous is thick.
Original movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1520 with 26 jewels. Movement is clean and running great.
Watch is mint and 100% original. It is on a matte olive canvas military strap.
