Description
This 2011 TAG Heuer limited edition chronograph has a strong vintage influence. And it’s no wonder: the original Heuer Monaco is one of the all-time greatest chronograph designs, an icon of the 1970s, and is highly collectable. Although TAG Heuer re-issued the Monaco in 1998, that model doesn’t hold a candle to this 2011 watch with grey dial, limited to 1,860 pieces. This watch is new with box and papers.
The Monaco’s square (cushion, in watch parlance) shaped case is, in large part, responsible for the watch’s popularity. Heuer got the case perfect the first time, so there was no need to change it up for this new model. The finish of the steel case alternates between brushed and polished surfaces. The chronograph buttons are located on the right side of the case, while the crown is on the left side. Case measures 40mm wide by 40mm long (47.5mm long from lug tip to lug tip) by 15mm thick. The square crystal is sapphire and the case back also has a sapphire display crystal. Water resistant to 100 meters. I have to say the “fit and finish” on this watch is outstanding.
Dial is grey with subtle vertical brush finish, applied horizontally oriented hour markers, red hands with inlaid luminous, red hour markers with adjacent luminous dots, square subdials which are black in color and sunken and report constant seconds and chronograph 30 minute totalizer, and date window at 6 o’clock. If you look closely at the dial, you notice that the minutes and seconds chapter is round with white print, and everything on this square dial is located within the circle except the applied hour markers. This dial is a fantastic design, and in my opinion one of the nicest chronograph dials from any manufacturer ever.
Movement is the automatic winding TAG Heuer Caliber 11 with 55 jewels and beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour.
Strap is black TAG Heuer calf leather with perforations, which is an homage to the original Monaco strap. Folding steel TAG Heuer deployment clasp.
Watch is new with box and papers.
