Writing about so many beautiful watches is no easy thing to do. It's not the writing part that is difficult; it's not giving into the temptation to keep the watches! This Patek reference 5040 is just such a temptation. Patek produced very few formed watches versus their production of round case watches. This solid 18k gold 5040 is a rare, beautiful watch in every regard and is highly collectable.
While everything about this perpetual calendar is nice, for me the nicest aspect is the case. It's a perfectly proportioned, perfectly sized tonneau shape. Dimensions are 41mm long by 35mm wide by 8.5mm thick. It's an eminently wearable size, and fits easily under shirt cuffs. Sapphire crystals front and display back.
Caliber 240 Q with 22k mini-rotor for automatic winding; 27 jewels; 46 hour power reserve. Caliber has 275 individual parts and is stamped with the Geneva Seal.
Dial is silver with the following displays: day and 24 hour indicators at 9 o'clock; month and leap year indicator at 3 o'clock; moonphase and date indicators at 6 o'clock. Dial has applied Breguet arabic numerals and printed minutes chapter.
Strap is new brown hand-sewn Patek Philippe crocodile with 18k Patek tang buckle. Watch is like new.
