Description
The Rolex Explorer II reference 1655 was the first Explorer II. It has a unique look in the history of Rolex watches, with its orange colored 24 hour second timezone hand, steel bezel with 24 hour scale, and the hands and dial on the 1655 are unique to this model.
Original stainless steel case measures 38mm diameter by 14mm thick. The case shows wear, but the fabulous news is that this watch has never been polished. Case still shows its original beveled edges and is absolutely full metal all around.
The original bezel has an engraved and brush finished 24 hour scale with black numbers. Case back is engraved “ERNEST G MIKULLA KETCHUM COMMUNICATIONS INC 20 YEARS OF SERVICE 5-8-64 to 5-8-84”. Original screw down crown is operating perfectly. Acrylic crystal with cyclops. The serial number 5872XXX dates production to 1979.
Original untouched black dial is in perfect condition and the luminous hour markers and hands are just starting to show patina, which is accordingly very light and very pleasing. Silver date wheel/date display at 3 o’clock.
Original movement is 26 jewel automatic winding Rolex caliber 1570, adjusted to five positions and temperature. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer. Movement is running perfectly.
Bracelet is a Rolex Oyster bracelet reference 78360 13 links and will fit up to an 8.25 inch wrist. Bracelet is tight as new.
