The Big Crown model 6538 is the most coveted vintage Rolex Submariner. Just feast your eyes on this one – it’s a beautiful watch. It’s also remarkably clean and mint.
Original stainless steel case is a robust 38mm diameter by 14.8mm thick. Lugs are extra-fat and have the third-edge bevel that collectors look for to indicate a case that is minimally or never polished. Bezel is a Rolex service bezel and insert. Original BREVET screw down crown operating as it should.
Serial number 393XXX dates to 1958. This is supported by the inside case back which has ‘6538’ and date code 1.1958.
Original expertly restored black gilt chapter ring dial. Dial is mint and luminous is uniform and pleasing.
Original automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1030 with 25 jewels and adjusted to temperature and in 5 positions. Movement is clean and running. Inside case back shows a service history.
