Description
Here is a really nice vintage Rolex GMT Master from 1958 with gorgeous original and untouched tropical dial. The case on this watch is extra mint also. A real treat!
Original case is stainless steel with dimensions of 38mm diameter by 13.2mm thick. The metal bezel is original to the watch and turns exactly as it should. The bezel insert is Bakelite. The 6542 case does not have crown guards, making it distinct from all subsequent GMT Master models and much more collectable. Case has fat lugs and is in mint original condition. Screw down crown operates flawlessly. Case is in mint to mint+ condition.
Serial number 431XXX dates production to 1958. Inside case back is stamped ‘6542’ and II.59.
Original movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1065 with 25 jewels and adjusted to 5 positions and temperature. Movement is operating well and is very clean and has the cool butterfly rotor. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
The original black dial is 100% untouched and beautiful. The dial is changing in color to brown which looks fantastic. Collectors term original black dials that change in color to brown “Tropical” dials. Dial has light crazing. Here is a summary of the dial’s highlights (there are no lowlights!):
