Description
Do you know why vintage chronographs are almost all better than today’s chronographs? It’s because the vintage chronographs, at least up to the 1970’s, all used chronograph calibers with column wheel construction. The column wheel is acknowledged as being the best technical approach to chronograph operation, not to mention aesthetically pleasing. Almost all chronographs used the Valjoux 22 or Valjoux 23 movements and later the 72 series movements, which is what Rolex used in the Daytonas right up into the 1980s. Today you need to spend $10,000+ to get a chronograph movement with column wheel construction in a new watch. Save your money and buy this watch!
New mint condition Valjoux 23 based chronograph from Aristo Import Co. from the 1950’s. Steel case is practically new featuring the original factory finish and with factory bevels. Nice smooth bezel. Case back engraved and it’s a screw back. Dimensions are 35mm diameter by 12.3mm thick. Domed plastic crystal, large winding crown and round pump-style chronograph pushers.
Original, untouched and great looking silver dial with applied arabic numerals and hour markers, two subdials for seconds and chronograph 30 minute totalizer, red central chronograph seconds hand, minutes and seconds chapter at the periphery of the dial and my favorite: original dauphine hands. Dial is signed APT 17 JEWELS INCABLOC ANTIMAGNETIC.
Movement as mentioned is the Valjoux manual winding Caliber 23 with 17 jewels and with column wheel construction. Movement is immaculate and running.
Strap is used hand-sewn Patek Philippe crocodile with generic steel buckle.
