Description
Here is a Rolex watch that precedes the Submariner, GMT, Explorer, Daytona and all the other sports models. It’s the Oyster case and model that literally made Rolex the superior watch company, not only for the Oyster case’s good looks but for its imperviousness to water, dirt and other forms of intruders that routinely ruined watches back in the 1950s and before.
As for this model 6101 from 1953, well, go find another one. The model is so unusual that Rolex probably only made a handful. And look at the original 18k rose gold case and original, native black dial. This is just an astoundingly rare and great looking vintage Rolex.
Original solid 18k rose gold, or pink gold if you prefer, case with early original engine turned bezel. Original rose gold SUPER + OYSTER ROLEX crown operates perfectly. Domed acrylic crystal. The serial number 905XXX dates this watch to 1953. The serial number is both between the lugs and also engraved on the case back and the case back numbers are as perfectly clear and crisp as the day the watch left the Rolex factory in 1953! Dimensions are 34mm diameter by 11.8mm thick.
Original untouched black dial with applied “ROLEX”, applied coronet and hour markers. The 3, 6 and 9 o’clock hour markers all have original luminous as do the original golden sword style hands.
Inside case back is marked 6084 then crossed out! 6101 is engraved above it along with the other Rolex markings and the 18k gold hallmark. Movement is the Rolex automatic winding caliber 9 ¾’’’ with 20 jewels and Super Balance timed in 6 positions. Movement is clean and running.
Bracelet is Rolex 18k rose gold riveted Oyster in extra-clean condition.
