Description
Alain Silberstein has retired from watchmaking and unlike other horological artists like Gerald Genta and Daniel Roth, Mssr. Silberstein did NOT sell the right to produce watches with his name on them to a conglomerate. He retired the brand when he retired. So, Silberstein watches are only going to get more and more rare.
Alain Silberstein is the most playful watchmaker ever and his watches are so charismatic and distinctive. This is a limited edition of 150 watches only and this is watch number 2X in the series. Condition is indiscernible from new.
First of all, the watch is a tourbillon, which is a high complication. Other brands always produce their tourbillons in gold or platinum cases to make them even more elite than a tourbillon already is. Good for Alain Silberstein for offering his tourbillon in a stainless steel case and keeping the price down.
Stainless steel case measures 40mm diameter by 12mm thick. Sapphire front and display back crystals. Silberstein cases are unique in their form with deep round cases with straigt steep walls and round polished lugs. The crown is always stylized with an enamel inlay. This case has the same white etched design as the dial. Remarkably, the case is water resistant to 100 meters.
Dial has a large cutaway to display the tourbillon. The dial itself has the white etched motif that looks like work by Keith Haring to me. Hands are classic Silberstein. Date display at 12 o’clock.
Movement is the manual winding Silberstein tourbillon Caliber ASC 1.1.1 with 23 jewels and beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour. As can be seen in the picture below, the movement features extensive elaborations and some uniquely formed plates.
Strap is white Silberstein alligator with tang clasp.
Watch is in new condition with original US Retail Price above $70,000.
