Description
Rolex saves its best dials for its solid gold watches. This original untouched Tiger’s Eye dial is as cool looking as it is insanely rare. Wikipedia says this about Tiger’s Eye: “is a chatoyant gemstone that is usually a metamorphic rock that is a golden to red-brown color, with a silky luster. A member of the quartz group, it is a classic example of pseudomorphous replacement by silica of fibrous crocidolite”. Now you know more about Tiger’s Eye than 99.9% of people.
This vintage Datejust in solid 18k gold measures 36mm diameter by 12mm thick. You can buy a gold watch from hundreds of brands, but you won’t find a nicer execution than the Oyster case. It’s a gold sandwich, in a beautiful way. The fluted bezel. The 18k screw down crown. The sapphire crystal. The massive gold screw down case back. Water resistant to 100 meters.
Original untouched Tiger’s Eye dial with original golden baton hands and date display at 3 o’clock. What the dial doesn’t have is hour markers or anything else that distracts from the dial’s unique coloration. Rolex takes a chunk of Tiger’s Eye and slices off pieces to make dials. Accordingly, each and every dial is unique given the natural colors and striations. It’s aptly named too; it looks just like a tiger’s eye.
Movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 3035 with 27 jewels, adjusted to heat, cold and in 5 positions, and is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
Strap is a new Patek Philippe brown alligator strap with Rolex buckle.
