Description
This Patek Philippe reference 1579 chronograph in rare 18k rose gold dates to 1952. The 1579 is characterized by its uniquely shaped lugs. As with all collectable pieces of art, condition and authenticity are paramount. With these vintage Pateks, the condition of the case is often compromised by over polishing. Not so the case with this 18k rose gold case. The lugs are as crisp and sharp as the day the case was made.
Original case is 18k rose gold (some people say pink gold instead) with dimensions of 36mm diameter by 11mm thick, with three part construction. The case is round, while the claw (or “teardrop”) shape lugs and the square chronograph buttons play against the case’s roundness to create an interesting and unique case in the history of Patek chronographs. Crystal is domed acrylic.
Original untouched silver dial with applied golden arabic numerals and feuille hands. Original chronograph hands are blued. There is a tachymeter scale around the periphery of the dial with an inner minutes and fifths of a second scale. Two sunken subdials, one for constant seconds and the other is the chronograph totalizer.
Movement is the manual winding Patek Philippe Caliber 13’’’ with 23 jewels, Breguet balance spring, micrometer regulation, and is adjusted in 8 positions. The chronograph features column wheel construction. The movement is clean and running.
The watch is on a modern, new Patek Philippe crocodile strap with Patek tang buckle.
