Description
The International Watch Company (aka “IWC”) created one of the all-time great models, when they cased a pocket watch movement in a wristwatch case, for a Portuguese customer, back in the early 1900s. The Portuguese is one of the top 5 best looking watch models of all time, in my opinion. The oversized masculine case exudes elegance. Being an IWC, the movements are always over engineered to perfection. And this particular skeletonized minute repeater is the efflorescence of the famed Portuguese’s lineage. It is truly gorgeous.
This is a limited edition watch, with total production of 50 pieces. This is watch 1X/50.
The solid 18k white gold case measures 43mm diameter (not including the crown or repeater slide) by 12.5mm thick. The crystal is sapphire. The case back has a narrow bezel, which serves to allow maximum viewing of the reverse side of the movement through the sapphire crystal display back. The case has extremely clean lines, in this case interrupted only by the solid white gold minute repeater slide.
There is no dial on this watch, naturally. Instead, there is a narrow ring around the front of the watch with an embossed minutes chapter. The leaf style hands are blued. There is a bridge visible through the front of the watch which is engraved “Probus IWC Scafusia”.
The movement is skeletonized by hand, hand finished and hand decorated. It is a minute repeater, and the hammer and gongs are visible through the crystal. There is not much else to say about this watch, except to feast your eyes on the high definition pictures below.
Strap is dark navy blue IWC crocodile with 18k white gold IWC deployant clasp.
