Description
Every original vintage Patek Philippe Calatrava has its charms, but this watch has way more than its fair share. In fact, original black dials on Calatravas are rare. These General Motors 1578s are the only 1578s to ever leave Patek with black dials. Only 20 were made and only a few exist to this day. We’re talking RARE.
The 1578 case features its unique flared claw style lugs, in 18k yellow gold, with dimensions of 35.5mm diameter by 10mm thick. Domed acrylic crystal. Caseback is engraved "GMOO M.J. GAFFNEY 1929-1954". GMOO stands for General Motors Overseas Operation. This series of 20 watches is from the 1950s and 60s.
Original dial is black with applied '12', '3', '9' and hour markers. Dial is all original and in outstanding and perfect condition. Hands are also original. Subsidiary seconds dial.
Original movement is the manual winding Patek Philippe Caliber 12-400 with 18 jewels and adjusted to temperature, isochronism and five positions. This movement is double stamped with the Geneva Seal. The movement is clean and running.
Watch will be delivered on an alligator Patek strap.
