Description
Jaeger LeCoultre is the most underrated Swiss manufacture by far. The company has turned out spectacularly styled and ingeniously complicated watches for generations, but then prices them almost modestly. Cognoscenti collectors realize that Jaeger LeCoultre (JLC) is right up there with Vacheron Constantin and Breguet and A. Lange & Sohne in terms of horology. We are long time JLC fans.
This Master Eight Days Perpetual Calendar is a giant in all respects. First of all, the solid 18k rose gold case is an impressive 41.5mm diameter by 11.7mm thick. Sapphire front and display back crystals. Broad rose gold bezel. The fit and finish on a JLC timepiece is at the same level as A. Lange & Sohne, which is to say the best in the business. This watch carries model number 146.2.26.S.
Dial is silvered and there is a lot going on, but remarkably legible. First of all, the hour markers and ‘12’ are applied rose gold. Oversized rose gold hour and minute hands. The complications/displays are as follows in a clockwise direction: Night/Day indicator between 12 o’clock and 1 o’clock; date subdial at 3 o’clock; month subdial above 6 o’clock; 4 digit year display; day and moonphases subdial at 9 o’clock and power reserve indicator at 11 o’clock.
The in-house manufacture caliber providing all this information is the astoundting Jaeger LeCoultre Caliber 876 with 37 jewels, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, with two barrels to provide the 8 days of power reserve. Even though JLC is a Swiss manufacture, the beautifully decorated back plate is reminiscent of the famous Glashutte ¾ plate that the elite German watch makers use. Movement is comprised of 262 individual parts.
Strap is JLC crocodile with 18k rose gold deployment clasp.
Watch is like new with box and papers.
