Description
You have to look far and wide to find a completely original Rolex GMT Master reference 6542. 99% of the time the original Bakelite bezel insert has been replaced and/or the original bezel structure has been replaced. Forget about finding an original untouched gilt railroad track dial with original red small arrow 24 hour hand. Well, look no further! This watch is a collectable treasure.
Original case is stainless steel with dimensions of 38mm diameter by 13.2mm thick. The big story with this case is that it still has its original bezel and blue/red Bakelite bezel insert. The case is also remarkable in that it does not have crown guards, which is another desirable feature. Case has fat lugs with the original edges/bevels and is in mint original condition. Screw down crown operates flawlessly. Serial number 397XXX dates production to 1958. Inside case back is stamped ‘6542’ and III.58.
The original black dial is 100% untouched and beautiful. Here is a summary of the dial’s highlights (there are no lowlights!):
