Description
OMEGA SPEEDMASTER MK 4.5 CHRONOGRAPH STEEL AUTOMATIC 1975
The Omega Speedmaster is one of the most iconic and most sought after chronographs in the world.
Tried and tested like no other watch in the world, the Speedmaster became Nasa’s watch of choice and became the first watch ever to be worn on the moon in 1969, by none other than Buzz Aldrin.
Due to its ease of operation, reliability and legibility, the Speedmaster became the instrument watch for pilots, and went through various changes in the proceeding years to accommodate professional pilots. A date function was added (Mark II, Mark III, Mark IV), followed a day and date display in the Mark 4.5, reference ST.176.00012.
In addition, this 3-register Mark 4.5 was the first Omega chronograph to feature a 24hr night/day indicator at the 12 o’clock position. The chronograph’s minute register is the large center hand with its distinctive airplane wing shaped tip.
This example of the Mark 4.5 is one of our favorite Speedmasters and is in absolutely spectacular, like new condition! It was fully serviced at Omega/Thailand in October 2013 at a cost of over $800, and carries a full 2-year Omega warranty.
The large screw-down cushion case, with its mesmerizingly radiant, brushed sunburst finish is in perfect condition, with all edges 100% intact. The embossed Seamaster seahorse logo is proudly embossed on the case back and is perfect.
Case measurements are 42mm in diameter by 15mm thick. The tachymeter is printed underneath the super hard mineral crystal, which is also perfect.
The black dial features 3 sub-registers for the seconds counter at 9 o’clock, 24hr night/day indicator at 12 0‘clock and chronograph hour register at the 6 o’clock position. The day, date display are located at the 3 o’clock position.
The automatic movement, caliber 1045, is in perfect condition and runs flawlessly, keeping great time. All chronograph functions work perfectly and reset properly to zero.
The original steel bracelet is in equally impressive condition and bears the reference# 1286.249.1.
