Patek Philippe is King of Minute Repeaters. No other watch company has spent the time, attention, collective expertise or actual research and design money they have, to perfect the acoustics of their minute repeaters. This reference 5078 in platinum is a pure reflection and perfect outcome to their dedication.
First of all, the 38mm platinum case is a nod to innovation. The similar model 3979 preceded the 5078, with a 33.5mm diameter case. That's too small by today's standards. The 3979’s size also doesn't optimize that watch's repeating tone. The 38mm case of this 5078 allows for more resonation of the sound waves and, consequently, a better and louder tone for the repeater's gongs. Sapphire crystals front and back. Stepped lugs. This bigger and bolder 5078 case is perfect.
Black roman enamel-lacquered dial with raised white roman numerals, white feuille shaped hands, sunken subsidiary seconds dial with concentric guilloche. Extremely classic and very nice looking indeed.
Automatic winding (almost unheard of in a minute repeater) Patek Philippe Caliber R 27 PS with 39 jewels and 342 individual parts. Movement has a 48 hour power reserve, micro-rotor construction, and is stamped with the Geneva Seal. The repeater’s hammers and gong can be seen operating through the display back.
