Description
Max Busser was managing director at Harry Winston Rare Timepieces before leaving to start his own MB&F company, which produces outrageously original timepieces in collaboration with eccentric master watchmakers. Interestingly, Max was a childhood fan of Japanese comic books, and sneaks several references to "manga" culture into the design of each watch model he makes (like the shape of the winding rotor on this watch).
It is hard, to be honest, to know where to start, in describing this Horological Machine Number 3 in 18k white gold. Everything about it is eccentric, beginning with the shape.
First of all, if you wear your watch on your left wrist, the watch is worn with the crown facing left. The time in hours is displayed in the bottom "cone" by a red needle that moves across the black hours scale. Minutes are displayed in the upper cone, also by means of a red needle. Date is displayed on large metallic grey wheel with 1-31 at the left-most edge inside the front display crystal where the large 22k gold skeletonized winding rotor is visible.
Size-wise, this thing is a colossus at 50mm long by 46.5mm wide by 16mm thick. As you might imagine, the fit and finish is fantastic.
Movement has 44 jewels and beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a 42 hour power reserve.
Strap is hand sewn custom made and signed MB&F in black crocodile with double-folding deployment clasp.
Watch is 99% new with original box.
MB&F is a tiny firm producing just over 100 watches per year and these early watches are already highly collectable.
