As an introductory note: this never polished watch is the best condition 1655 we have ever seen.
The reference 1655 is the first Explorer II, which was designed for cave explorers. The orange hand makes one sweep of the dial every 24 hours, allowing the wearer to keep on a day/night schedule even in a complete absence of light. For me, the best thing about the 1655 is that no other Rolex looks like it.
Original UNPOLISHED stainless steel case measures 38mm diameter by 13.3mm thick. Original Mark 1 bezel is clean with undiminished sharp edges and the case overall is in mint+ condition with full lugs and original bevels. Crystal is plastic. Original screw down crown operates perfectly. Serial number 5381XXX dates production to 1978.
Original untouched black dial is mint. Hands are all original and, well, just look at them... they are beautiful! Still bright white on the edges but with deep patina on the luminous, which matches the luminous on the dial perfectly.
Original movement is the 26 jewel automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1570, which is adjusted to five positions and temperature. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer. Condition is clean and running. There is a watchmaker’s mark indicating a recent movement service.
