Description
Here is a wonderful example of the collectable Rolex Explorer II Steve McQueen reference 1655 with the orange 24 hour hand. The Italians call the 1655 the Freccione. This is a unique watch in the history of all Rolex sport watches, with its orange 24 hour hand and it's also the only Rolex model to ever use this dial and hands.
Original stainless steel case measures 38mm diameter by 14mm thick. The bezel has an engraved and brush finished 24 hour scale with black numbers. Screw down crown is operating perfectly. Plastic crystal. Serial number 6434XXX dates production to 1980. Condition is mint with fat uniform lugs and nice sharp edge to the bezel.
Original untouched black dial is in perfect condition. Hands and hour markers have an even and pleasing patina – and just the right color: not too white and not too dark.
Movement is the Rolex automatic winding Caliber 1575, derived from the Caliber 1570 - arguably the best large series production automatic movement by any manufacturer, ever. This movement is known to keep time to within one or two seconds per day, even after 30+ years of service. The 1575 provides 24 hour/GMT time and date, in addition to hours, minutes and seconds. Movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
Watch is in mint to mint+ condition on cream color NATO strap with cool black hardware.
