Description
If ever there were a rare modern Patek Philippe wristwatch, this is the one. Garrard is a jeweler in London and were appointed The Crown Jewellers by Queen Victoria in 1843. This limited edition of 150 watches was made to commemorate Garrard’s 150th anniversary of being the crown jewellers in 1993. It is obvious how seriously Patek took this occasion, because the watch has a unique dial, the Patek box is customized, and the watch is accompanied by original Garrard’s Voyage to the End of Time booklet, two Extracts from the Archive – one of which has the Garrard’s logo imprinted, and a press release about the watch and the innovations it contains.
Case is solid 18k rose gold with 34mm diameter and sapphire front and display back crystals. Display back is signed GARRARD 1843 L’ANNIVERSAIRE 1993. Case back is a screw back. Case lines are modern with down sloping lugs.
Dial is superb. Patek describes it on the 2014 Extract as “Rose velvet-finished dial, 11 Breguet numerals in rose gold”. Dial also features embossed minutes chapter, Breguet (also known as pomme) hands in rose gold and date window at 3 o’clock.
Movement is the automatic winding Patek Philippe Caliber 315 SC with 29 jewels, sweep-seconds and 21k winding rotor. The accompanying press release boasts that the winding system reaches its 50 hour power reserve 30% more quickly than the preceding Caliber 310. It’s rare for Patek to boast, but on the occasion of this watch, they felt proud enough to discuss this watch’s next-generation attributes in the press release.
