Description
I could write volumes about the Explorer (also known as the Explorer 1), but I’ll just say that Rolex designed this watch for mountain climbers (it was supplied to the first successful expedition to summit Mount Everest led by Sir John Hunt) and its dial is the quintessence of form following function. To say that it’s legible is an understatement. To say that a vintage Explorer is a piece of art as much as it is a piece of history is about right.

This Explorer comes with original everything: original Rolex box, Chronometer certificate, punched serial number Guarantee booklet and even the “Explorer” instructional pamphlet.

Original stainless steel case measures 35mm diameter by 12.2mm thick. Plastic crystal. Water resistant to 100 meters. Screw down crown is working great. The serial number 1735XXX shows that 1967 is the year of production. Original Guarantee papers show a retail sales date of “Dec. 1970”.

Original dial is black with printed ‘3’, ‘6’ and ‘9’ and the famous inverted triangle at 12 o’clock. Original hands.

Original movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1570 with 26 jewels and adjusted to 5 positions and temperature. This movement is immaculately clean and running and is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.

Bracelet is Rolex heavy link Oyster. Condition is near mint. As mentioned, this watch is complete with original everything!
