Description
Serious collectors have moved big time into early Submariners. That is nothing new. However, prices are exploding just as they are with Paul Newman Daytonas. Here is a beautiful looking and very collectable reference 6538 vintage Rolex Submariner. This is the model known as the “Big Crown” for its oversized winding crown and no crown guards case. The dial and hands on this watch have a mellowed patina that is outstanding and very beautiful.
Original stainless steel case in mint condition with dimensions of 38mm diameter by 16mm thick, along with domed plastic crystal, screw down big crown (operating great) and smoothly turning bezel with insert, which shows some aging. Case edges have sharp bevels. Serial number 307XXX dates production to 1957. Inside case back is stamped 6538 and III.1957, showing that the watch left the factory in the third quarter of 1957.
Original movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1030 with 25 jewels and adjusted for five positions and temperature. Movement is clean and running.
Original untouched gilt rail track dial. The luminous on the dial and hands and the gilt printing have all taken on the same rich and mellow gold color to beautiful effect. The dial is in mint plus, perfect condition.
Even the riveted Rolex Oyster bracelet is original, which is a very rare occurrence, in mint condition with 4 57 date code.
