Description
The Patek Philippe reference 2497 was produced from 1951 until 1963. Only 179 2497s were made. Of those, half of the watch cases were made by Vichet, which have a flat case back and the other half were made by Wenger, with a slightly domed case back and slightly larger. Only 20 of the Wenger made 2497s have the baton index dial, and only 10 feature the style of baton indexes as seen on this watch: the series A short batons versus the bullet batons with the pointed tips.
This watch is one of only two known 2497s with the small signature “PATEK PHILIPPE GENEVE” whose width is so small that it falls between the width of the Day and Months apertures. It is the nicest 2497 we have owned and the rarest of the rare.
Original, unpolished and mint 18k gold case with large domed bezel, acrylic crystal, stepped lugs which are crisp, and domed snap on case back. Dimensions are 37.5mm diameter by 12mm thick.
Original untouched silver dial with applied golden short baton hour markers, apertures for day and month, moonphase display at 6 o’clock with date scale around it, and minutes and seconds chapter at dial periphery. Gorgeous original golden dauphine hands and the rare and sweet blued sweep seconds hand.
Original manual winding Patek Philippe Caliber 27 SC Q with 18 jewels and balance adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and in 5 positions.
