Description
This 1959 Patek Philippe Calatrava is the perfect vintage wristwatch. Its 18k rose gold case is unpolished and features a screw back, which was Patek’s effective innovation to protect their best automatic winding movement. Case size is large at 36mm diameter by 10.3mm thick and the watch has original 18k rose gold bracelet. This model earned the nickname “Disco Volante” which means flying saucer, because of its unique profile. On top of all of these attributes, this watch also has its original Patek Philippe box and papers. It really doesn’t get any better!
The bracelet deserves special mention for being manufactured for Patek by Gay Freres. Solid 18k rose gold in brick-link style with clasp with 1 56 date stamp.
Original untouched silvered dial with applied rose gold markers, original rose gold dauphine hands and subsidiary seconds. The markers and hands have inlaid radium. Embossed dot minutes chapter.
Automatic winding Patek Philippe Caliber 12’’600 which has 30 jewels and is adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and in 5 positions and is double stamped with the Geneva Seal. Large 18k gold winding rotor.
The Certificate makes note of the fact that this watch came from the factory with 18k rose bracelet and describes the dial thusly: “d’heures relief or radium satine blanc” and is dated December 9, 1959 Geneve.
Once again, condition is exceptional – never polished and mint+. This is a keeper for its next lucky owner.
