Description
Patek Philippe invented the pairing of the perpetual calendar with moonphase and chronograph complications. The Patek Philippe reference 2499 perpetual calendar chronograph is one of the most important wristwatches. It’s also one of the rarest, with production of only 349 watches from 1951 to 1985. The vast majority of 2499s have been permanently retired by collectors. If you have been considering the acquisition of a 2499, then this watch we are offering is an opportunity to own an mint+ never polished example.
This particular watch dates to 1969. Judging from the serial number, this is very possibly the last third series 2499 watch produced. The 18k yellow gold case measures 37.5mm in diameter by 14mm thick. When evaluating a reference 2499, it is critical to examine the lugs, which are stepped. When these cases left the factory, the step was crisp and sharp. Many 2499s have been polished over the years to the point where the step is only barely discernible. The step on the lugs of this watch are as perfect as the day this watch left the factory, which can be seen in the series of high definition pictures below. Furthermore, the hallmark on this case is the deepest we have observed on any 2499 case. Other case details are a domed acrylic crystal, round “pump” chronograph pushers and large 18k winding crown. Condition of the case is mint+ and absolutely unpolished with original finish.
Dial is 100% untouched original and perfect. Vibrant silver in color, with golden applied hour markers and gorgeous dauphine hands, the dial also has apertures for displaying the Day and Date below the 12 o’clock; subdial at 3 o’clock displays chronograph elapsed minutes; subdial at 6 o’clock displays moon phase and date; subdial at 9 o’clock displays the seconds.
Movement is the manual winding Patek Philippe Caliber 13’’’ with 23 jewels, adjusted in 8 positions, with self-compensating Breguet balance spring, swan neck regulator, and stamped with the Geneva Seal.
This important vintage Patek Philippe 2499 third series watch is in mint+ original condition and will be delivered with Extract from the Archives.
