Description
Patek Philippe invented the pairing of the chronograph and perpetual calendar in a wristwatch over seventy years ago. Their various perpetual calendar chronograph models over the years have not only proven legendary, they are also the best looking such watches ever designed and produced by any manufacturer. From the reference 1518 to the 2499 to the 3970 to the 5970 and now the 5270. These watches are exemplary and also a collector’s dream watch.

This reference 5271P in platinum is Patek’s newest perpetual chronograph. In a word, it’s breathtaking. We will get to the horological significance of the watch shortly. First, the 5271 is the dressed up version of the 5270. Platinum case is set with 58 baguette diamonds which total 3.63ct. The white platinum color, paired with the black dial and the diamonds, is visually stimulating to say the least!

The 5270/5271 watches have the distinction of utilzing Patek’s first manufacture perpetual calendar chronograph caliber. This new caliber contains six patent pending innovations. The 5270 was introduced in 2011 to mark the 70th anniversary of Patek’s esteemed perpetual calendar chronograph tradition.

Case is platinum and factory baguette diamond set on the bezel and contoured lugs, has sapphire crystals front and display back, large platinum winding crown and rectangular chronograph pushers. Diameter is 41mm.

Black dial is balanced, legible and handsome. It is adorned with a baguette diamond marker at 12 o’clock. Feuille hands and applied hour markers. Calendar day and month are display in the apertures below the double marker at 12 o’clock. Three o’clock subdial displays chronograph 30 minute totalizer. Six o’clock subdial shows date and moonphase. Nine o’clock subdial is for constant seconds. The round aperture between 4 o’clock and 5 o’clock shows years 1-4 in the leap year cycle. Aperture between 7 o’clock and 8 o’clock displays an AM/PM indicator.

Movement is the Patek Philippe manual winding Caliber CH 29-535 PS Q with column wheel construction. The six patents pending which I mentioned are for highly technical innovations. For example, the driving, clutch and chronograph wheels feature a new pattern and shape to their teeth to optimize performance. It took Patek two years to perfect the calendar module in the Caliber CH 29-535 PS Q which connects with the 182 part chronograph assembly. This elite manufacture caliber is optimized for performance, endurance and aesthetic superiority.

Strap is black hand-sewn crocodile with Patek deployment clasp which is also set with diamonds.

Watch is new with box and papers.
