Description
This is an extremely special wristwatch. In fact, this watch is the rarest limited edition in Patek’s history, and the only numbered limited edition. Patek Philippe made and numbered 20 (1/20, 2/20 etc.) model 5049 perpetual calendar watches to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Boodle & Dunthorne (1798-1998) which is a Liverpool based jeweler which supplied watches to the British Admiralty and Air Ministry, as well as jewelry for the royal family. Although this watch was made in 1998, it was not retailed until much later and is in fact new with box and papers and hang tag.
Patek went to great lengths to make this watch special. The platinum case has a different form from the other Caliber 240 based perpetual calendar models (the 3940 for example). Featuring two-part construction with stepped bezel, straight and downwardly curving lugs and domed sapphire crystal. The case back is engraved “IN CELEBRATION OF 200 YEARS BOODLE & DUNTHORNE 1798-1998” and with the watch’s limited edition number and roman numeral dates around the edge.
Matte black dial with applied indices and dauphine hands. Calendar functions are month and leap-year cycle, moonphase and date, and day and 24 hour time. A small but unique design feature is the pyramid markers next to 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock. Embossed minutes chapter.
Patek’s venerable automatic winding Caliber 240 with 27 jewels and 22k micro-rotor.
Matte black Patek Philippe crocodile strap with platinum tang buckle.
This amazingly rare and important limited edition Patek Philippe 5049 is new and complete with original Patek Philippe box, hang tag, wallet, booklets and Certificate of Origin.
