Description
The Patek 5040 makes use of Patek’s venerable automatic winding perpetual calendar caliber 240Q, which is used in the much more common watch model 3940. The 240Q is the best perpetual calendar movement, whose longevity over several decades speaks to how highly Patek regards this marvelous horological machine. The model 5040 offers a tonneau shaped 18k case and, for me, is more beautiful and slightly more classical than the 3940.

The case is a perfectly proportioned, perfectly sized tonneau shape. Dimensions are 41mm long by 35mm wide by 8.5mm thick. It's an eminently wearable size, and fits easily under shirt cuffs. Sapphire crystals front and rear.

Dial is silver with applied Breguet numerals and with the following displays: day and 24 hour indicators at 9 o'clock; month and leap year indicator at 3 o'clock; moonphase and date indicators at 6 o'clock.

Caliber 240 Q with 22k mini-rotor for automatic winding; 27 jewels; 46 hour power reserve. Caliber has 275 individual parts and is stamped with the Geneva Seal.

Watch is mint and complete with box and Certificate. Movement was overhauled by Wempe in Munich in July 2014 and is, accordingly, in perfect running condition.
