Ulysse Nardin has always been a watch manufacture held in high esteem by savvy watch collectors. The Astrolabium Galileo Galilei catapulted the firm from Le Locle to the top of the horological world when it was introduced in the 1990s. This watch is 18k white, rose and yellow gold and we believe it is a piece unique.
The astrolabe is an ancient computer for astronomy, usually made from brass. It’s one of man’s earliest and most useful examples of real technology. The first true astrolabes date as far back as AD400s. It was refined and used throughout the Islamic world and made its European debut from then Islamic controlled Spain in the 1100s. Flash forward to the 1990s and Ulysse Nardin made a wristwatch astrolabe.
This incredible wristwatch displays the position of the sun, moon and stars as seen from Earth, along with sunrise and sunset, dawn and dusk, moonphases, moon rise and moon set and eclipses of the sun and the moon. The watch also displays the month and day of the week.
Case is 18k rose/white/yellow gold with dimensions of 41mm diameter by 13.5mm thick. Sapphire crystal. The automatic Ulysse Nardin movement is richly decorated. Power reserve is 42 hours.
This early version of this masterpiece is complete with box and papers and is in like new condition, mint+.
