Description
Audemars Piguet is at the pinnacle of horology, and has demonstrated with watches like the Star Wheel, that the firm is also one the most creative Swiss manufacturers. This platinum Star Wheel has never been polished and retains its original case finish and is in mint condition with box and papers.
Case is platinum with dimensions of 36mm diameter by 9mm thick. Sapphire front and display back crystals. Stepped bezel.
Movement is the automatic winding Audemars Piguet Caliber 2124 with 33 jewels, 21k gold segment on rotor, and adjusted to temperature, isochronism and five positions
The dial and its esoteric presentation of the time is the real story of this watch, of course. The “Star Wheel” name comes from the star shaped wheels that sit below the transparent discs, which display the hour, as they travel across the 60 minute arc at the top of the dial. Each of the three discs has four numbers on it, which represent the 12 hours, and they pivot into position just before arriving at the starting position along the scale. Each hour number has an arrow next to it, and when the number and arrow travel across the 60 minute scale, the wearer can easily and intuitively read the time. From approximately the 2 o'clock to the 10 o'clock position, there is a platinum section with guilloche.
