Description
The Rolex Submariner reference 1680 in 18k gold with the so-called nipple dial is my favorite Rolex Sub of them all. This dial on this watch has turned from the original blue to golden brown, which is spectacularly nice looking. The case is extremely clean.
If you like gold, this trumps even a Rolex Day Date. The case is a massive 40mm in diameter and 14.5mm thick. The case is in mint+ condition with crisp bevels, perfect lugs and original finish. The bezel is original and turning with just the right amount of resistance. The bezel insert has also turned to Havana brown. The crystal is plastic. The original gold Triplock crown is operating perfectly. Serial number 5645XXX dates production to 1978.
Dial is awesome! Untouched and 100% original. The uniform golden brown color is gorgeous. There is a tiny amount of the original blue at the very edge of the dial. The applied golden hour markers give the dial great depth. The original hands are in great condition. Date display at 3 o’clock.
Movement is the Rolex automatic winding Caliber 1570, one of the most accurate automatic movements ever built by any manufacture. Maintained properly, many caliber 1570s keep time to within 1 or 2 seconds per day after 20+ years. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer. The movement has 26 jewels and is adjusted to 5 positions and temperature. Movement is clean and running.
Watch is absolutely beautiful and on a rustic suede strap with Rolex buckle. Mint+ condition.
