Description
One of six new models to commemorate Patek’s 175th anniversary, the 5275P is the new king of the Patek kingdom. The movement inside this watch required four years of research and development to come to fruition and has received four new patents. An astonishing amount of watchmaking innovation and skill went into the new Caliber 32-650 HGS PS which is comprised of 438 individual hand-finished parts.
Platinum case is tonneau shaped and features floral engraving. Notably, the case is made in-house by Patek, and is finished to the highest standard. Case back is engraved “PATEK PHILIPPE 175 ANNIVERSAIRE 1839-2014”. Crystal is sapphire. Case measures 47.4mm long by 39.8mm wide by 11.3mm thick. The slide on the left side of the case allows the wearer to activate or deactivate the hour chime.
Dial is solid gold and features the same floral motif as the case. The jump hour layout is something very special from Patek. The execution of the dial is pure art. Apart from the watch’s beauty, the first thing its owner will notice is that the seconds and minutes tick along their respective scales. The hour display jumps to the next hour precisely when the 59th second of the 59th minute of the hour expire.
The best part, of course, is that the watch chimes the hour, on the hour. From a watchmaking perspective, managing all of these transfers and utilizations of energy is no easy feat. The Caliber 32-650 HGS PS is manual winding and has 75 jewels, 438 individual parts and a power reserve of 48-53 hours. Once again, there is a slide that permits the wearer to turn the chiming mechanism on or off. I can’t imagine turning it off…
This limited edition (175 made) Grandmaster Chime is an amazing watch to see, much less own. The watch is factory sealed new and complete with box and papers. Special anniversary platinum deployment clasp.
