Description
Surely among, if not THE, rarest of all Daytonas, the reference 6240 with “Solo Rolex” dial, meaning that “ROLEX” is the only text on the dial. The model 6240 itself is a preproduction version of the later references 6263/6265 with their screw-down chronograph pushers. This 6240 has a 1.2M serial number, dating the watch to 1965 – very early in the first year of 6240 production.
Original stainless steel case with original first-series chronograph pushers, screw down crown, plastic crystal and original bezel. The screw-down chrono pushers made the 6240 Daytona Rolex’s first truly water resistant chronograph. This innovation represented real progress, in a decade (the 1960s) where change was not only everywhere but also quickening in pace. Rolex viewed a water-resistant Daytona as a priority. The 6240 is the rarest and most collectable Daytona and this early Solo Rolex version of the 6240 is the rarest 6240. Case is 37mm diameter.
Original silver dial with applied hour markers and three subdials for running seconds, and the chronograph 30 minute and 12 hour totalizers. The dial is KILLER looking with the minimal ‘ROLEX’ text.
Original Rolex Caliber 72B with 17 jewels and column wheel construction. Movement is clean and running.
Rolex riveted Oyster bracelet in clean, mint condition like the watch.
