Patek's engineers had a specific goal for the reference 5074, to present collectors with the finest and purest repeating tone of any watch from any manufacture ever. Such an undertaking required not only extensive knowledge of, and research in, metallurgy and acoustics but also the combined learning of all of the preceding generations of Patek's master watchmakers, who kept meticulous notes on the construction of every preceding repeating caliber produced by the firm. Not only is the 5074 a remarkable horological accomplishment, it is also gorgeous. The 18k rose gold case measures 42mm in diameter by 12.5mm thick. Broad bezel, stepped case, massive proportions. Minute repeater activation slide on left side of the case.

Dial is black with applied rose gold arabic numerals and feuille hands. The subdial at 3 o'clock displays month and leap year; the 6 o'clock subdial displays date and moonphase and the 9 o'clock subdial shows day and 24 hour time. Subdial hands are also leaf style, and the subdials are traced in gold.

Movement is the Patek Philippe automatic winding Caliber R 27Q. This caliber features micro-rotor construction, Cathedral gongs, 39 jewels, power reserve of 48 hours, 467 individual parts, and is stamped with the Geneva Seal.

Strap is hand-sewn black crocodile with an 18k rose gold Patek tang buckle.
