Description
If anyone doubt's Patek Philippe's absolute leadership position in the watch world, consider that advanced scientific materials have been finding their way into watch movements for half a decade already. These real advancements were always considered "gimmicky" until 2005 when Patek Philippe introduced this reference 5250 annual calendar with a friction-free silicium escape wheel. Even Patek couldn't escape the excitement; they even went so far as to build a magnifying lens into, and print "Patek Philippe Advanced Research" onto the sapphire display crystal on the rear of the watch. This watch was introduced at the 2005 Basel Watch Fair, and Patek calls the reference 5250 a "test run" and have produced only 100 pieces. (Silicium is anti-magnetic, super smooth, super hard, super light and will never corrode. All of these properties make it a real improvement over previous materials).
The Patek Philippe Caliber 315/266 powers this annual calendar, and in addition to employing the silicium escape wheel, the caliber also features 36 jewels, a central yellow gold winding rotor emblazoned with the Patek Calatrava Cross and is stamped with the Geneva Seal.
Patek enlarged the 18k white gold watch case for the reference 5250 to 39mm diameter. This watch also has an 18k white gold Patek deployant buckle.
Dial is silver. Hands are filled with luminous for night time legibility. There is a power reserve indicator under the "12", while the 3 o'clock subdial displays the month, the 9 o'clock subdial displays the day and moonphase and date windows are located above and below the 6 o'clock position respectively.
Strap is hand sewn black crocodile with 18k white gold deployment clasp.
The reference 5250 is one of the rarest modern Pateks, and this watch is accompanied by special original box and papers.
