Description
Rolex invented the GMT watch and no other GMT measures up to the original. Several versions have been produced over the decades, with the reference 116710 being the newest model. It’s an extremely good looking and masculine watch.
Stainless steel case measures 40mm diameter by 12mm thick. Nice thick lugs since the 2006 redesign and ceramic bezel insert, which is scratch resistant and whose black color will not fade. The bezel turns in both directions. Rolex uses the huge Triplock crown for the new 116710 GMT and it looks great. Crystal is sapphire. Case is water resistant to 100 meters.
Movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 3186 with 31 jewels. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
Dial is black with large applied luminous hour markers and luminous hands. The ‘GMT Master II’ text, along with the 24 hours hand, is green. Date at 3 o’clock.
The GMT Master II allows the wearer to track GMT or UTC 24 hour time along with local 12 hour time. The local 12 hour hand is independently settable from the 24 hour hand, and the bezel turns to allow the tracking of a third timezone if the wearer chooses. It is for this flexibility and Rolex’s famous durability and accurate timekeeping, that the GMT has been the professional pilots’ and astronauts’ choice of watches for 50 years.
Bracelet is Rolex Oyster with polished center links and flip lock clasp.
