Description
Rolex is a Swiss company with a decidedly Teutonic philosophy: keep improving the details of something incrementally until it’s perfect. There was nothing wrong with the previous generation of Rolex GMT Master II, it’s just that a tweak here or a tweak there would have improved it. So, Rolex improved it, with the use of the Trip-Lock crown system used in the Submariner, use of the Maxi Dial as implemented on the Anniversary Submariner, implementation of a ceramic bezel insert, more massive case elements like thicker bezel and thicker lugs, and a much improved clasp. This special Anniversary edition of the GMT II is an 18k GMT on steroids!
Case is 18k yellow gold with dimensions of 40mm diameter by 12.2mm thick. Massive trip-lock screw down crown (a huge improvement for the GMT in my opinion). Ceramic bezel (scratch resistant and color will not fade over time). Extra thick crown guards and lugs. Much improved clasp on the solid 18k Oyster bracelet (with polished center links). Bi-directional 24 hour bezel, Case is water resistant to 100 meters.
The flange (the vertical surface on the watch case between the crystal and the dial is engraved “ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX” all around, except at 12 o’clock where the Rolex coronet is engraved and at 6 o’clock where this watch’s serial number is engraved.
Dial is a special green color for this 18k Anniversary edition GMT Master II. The “Maxi Dial” characteristics of the dial are the oversized hour markers and hands, both of which have generous amounts of luminous. Date at 3 o’clock.
Movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 3185 with 31 jewels, Parachrome Blue Breguet balance spring, and balance with microstella regulating screws. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
