Submariners like these that feature no crown guards, which have come to be called “James Bond” Subs after a famous screen appearance, are by far the most collectable Submariners. Considering that back in the 1950s when Submariners were strictly tool watches worn by divers, the condition of this 6536 is exceptionally clean and mint.
Stainless steel case is in excellent condition and measures 36mm in diameter. The bezel insert is clean with the exception of a few marks. Screw down crown works perfectly. Domed acrylic crystal is clean. Serial number 399XXX dates production to 1958.
Original black dial with gilt print and chapter ring is in beautiful shape. The patina on the hour markers and hands is uniform and very pleasing to the eye.
Movement for this watch is the original automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1030 movement with 25 jewels and adjusted to five positions and temperature. Movement has “butterfly” rotor of that period and the movement is perfectly clean and running well.
Watch is fitted with steel Rolex oyster bracelet also in excellent condition.
