One of the most significant watches ever produced by Rolex. The 6062 was the first Triple Date Moonphase watch ever in a waterproof (Oyster) case. Introduced in 1950, the 6062 is similar to the 8171, however the 8171 was not waterproof. This is one of Rolex’s most cherished and collectable timepieces of all.
18k gold case measures 36mm in diameter. The watch features a screw down-crown and caseback. The bezel is fixed and lugs are curved. The crystal on the 6062 is plastic. The gold cases on the 6062 were made by Genex, Geneva, which was the case department of Gay Freres.
This watch features the ‘pyramid’ dial, one of only a few series of dial configurations for this reference. Applied gold pyramid hour markers and gold dagger hour markers at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions. Gold dauphine style hands with thin luminous inserts. Moonphase is featured at the 6 o’clock position. The dial has a beautiful and very appropriate patina for its age.
Movement is the Rolex automatic Caliber 655, which was developed specifically for the 6062 and featured the Rolex Super-Balance .
