In terms of the most well known vintage Submariner and the most collectable, it's certainly going to be the 6538. The reference 6538, also known as the “Big Crown” thanks to it’s large 8mm Brevet crown, or if you’re a James Bond fan, you’re most likely to call it that due to this watch making its appearance in Dr. No.
Spectacular condition no crown guards steel case is 38mm diameter and approx 13mm thick. This watch features an original bidirectional bezel calibrated to 60 units with red inverted triangle and domed plastic crystal as well as the previously mentioned large Brevet crown. During the 1950’s most people who wore submariners were divers and this watch is in amazing condition. Serial number 3838XX dates this watch to 1958.
Untouched 2-line black gilt dial with Tropical print is a real rarity. Sweep centre seconds and depth rating at 200m/660ft. Applied dot, baton and triangle luminous hour markers and outer minute divisions. Dial and case are signed.
Movement is the Automatic lever Caliber 1030 with 25 jewels and adjusted for 5 positions and temperature.
This watch is in incredible condition and comes fitted on a mint condition riveted Rolex Oyster bracelet.
