The Datejust is one the most important watches that helped Rolex in its success. Conceived in 1945 for the 40th anniversary of Rolex, the Datejust was born and quickly became one of the most appreciated designs by Rolex. This reference 6605 Datejust is in stainless steel and is circa 1970.
Stainless steel Oyster case measures 36mm in diameter and is approx 12mm thick. The watch features original fluted bezel and screw-down crown. The caseback is solid the crystal is plastic. Serial number 2778XXX dates production of this watch to 1970.
Rare original untouched black gilt gloss pie-pan dial with applied steel hour markers and original hands showing some patina to them. The reference 6605 was the first Datejust (and first Rolex watch, for that matter) to be delivered with the famous “Cyclops” lens built into the crystal, over the date display.
Movement for this watch is the original automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1065 with 25 jewels, adjusted to 5 positions and temperature, and is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
This watch is in excellent condition and comes fitted on a steel Rolex Jubilee bracelet.
